The Bargate is a Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument. Constructed in Norman times as part of the fortified walled city, the Bargate was the main point of entry and exit to and from the north of the city. Having been closed to the public for many years, the room above the gate was opened in 2006 as an art gallery by the arts organisation A Space.
