Watercolour illustration of Sir John Cass’ Foundation Primary School, Duke’s Place Aldgate.
‘For the poor children of London’ A brief life and history of Sir John Cass and Sir John Cass Foundation. Watercolour illustrations for a book celebrating the tercentenary of the founding of Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School in 1710. The Foundation is one of London's oldest and largest education charities. Founded in 1748, it supports education for young people under the age of 25 in inner London through its grant programmes for individuals, schools and organisations, and its support for a number of institutions bearing Sir John Cass's name. Once the decision was made to commission paintings of the Foundation's buildings, it became clear on seeing Peter's first sketches, that something special would result. The skill and expertise with which he carried out the work, and the clarity and elegance of the finished pieces, enormously embellish the pages of the Tercentennial Book. He was also a pleasure to work with.
